September marks Realtor Safety Month. Here are ways you can get involved, and educate yourself to be safe in your career.
Safety Tips from the National Association of Realtors:
- Homes with “For Sale” signs and public online listings attract more attention. Advise clients to be cautious about locking doors and windows at night.
- Prioritize safety in your marketing and listings by stating that identification will be required for the showing and/or vide surveillance will be used on site.
- Wireless hotspots are a great resource to bring with you when traveling to rural properties as cell reception and Wi-Fi are often limited.
- Consider bringing someone to showings in model homes or developments with low traffic.
- Ask a buddy to host an Open House with you.
- Before entering a commercial property, pack a flashlight in case of power outages and wear protective footwear.
- On arrival, walk the exterior of the property before entering to identify points of entry. Keep an eye out for possible broken windows and/or doors.
- As you wrap up your showing or open house, make it a priority to do a final security check. Ensure all windows and doors are securely locked.
